Eringer cows are an authentic Swiss breed, mainly encountered in the Canton Wallis (Southwest corner of Switzerland), that amounts to about 1% of the total cow population of Switzerland. They are between 120 to 140 cm high and very stocky. The cows have an inherent aggressivity against each other. So, when a herd is put together there are initially fights  – basically going head – to – head until one gives up – until the hierarchy is established. Nowadays such fights of pregnant cows are taking place after the cows are brought up on an alp for the summer. When the cows come down from the alps in fall, the best fighting cows go first to regional competitions and their winners end up in “Final Kantonal” to crown the best of all. There are several age classes – the lower the numbers painted on each side of the cow, the more mature the cow is and the winner of the most mature cows is the overall winner (Numbers 1 – 30).

In my sculpture, I modelled two separate cows, each standing on its own, so, that the future owner can arrange them as he/she wants. The come as a pair. The first image represents the fight I sculpted.
